DC Office Volunteers at Martha’s Table

On Friday, August 19th lawyers and staff from the Klein Hornig DC office participated in a service day at Martha’s Table. For over 35 years, Martha’s Table has worked to support stronger children, stronger families, and stronger communities by increasing access to quality education programs, healthy food and family supports. Martha’s Table reaches thousands of people through their food, education, and thrift store programs with significant support from 16,000 volunteers every year.

KH members assisted Martha’s Table staff with a pop-up grocery market, where children, families and individuals came and shopped for fresh produce and healthy non-perishable food, free of cost. As volunteers for the day, KH members set up, staffed, and cleaned up after the market: curating the space for shopping, supporting demonstrations of market-inspired recipes, and assisting children and families with choosing and learning about fruits, vegetables and other healthy food options.

An estimated 100 households shopped for food, sampled hummus that could be made with ingredients from the market and made fruit salad with the fruits on offer.
